2005 Results

In 2005 the cash payout formula was new, and like previous years Shaun White showed up and stole the show. White, 18 at the time, had captured the Salomon Men’s Rails titles at the first two Honda Session events. After falling behind early to Canadian TJ Schneider, White stormed back, snagging up $8,000 in prize money to take 1st place. Schneider pocketed $4,500 for his efforts on the evening. In all, 14 riders collected prize money under the new payout format, rather than the total purse being split among the top finishers.

Mammoth Mountain’s Molly Aguirre got things rolling early for the women, shaking off any first-timer’s nerves to become queen of 2005 Salomon Ladies Rails with a win over Laura Hadar. Aguirre, competing in her first rails competition, pocketed $4,200 in prize money, while Hadar collected $3,500 under the same format utilized for the men’s competition, paying out every 15 minutes durring the one-hour session. Aguirre’s final payout was $1,500 sweeter as she also claimed the Malay Factor Award for the best trick of the evening.

In Slopestyle, Shaun White again did not disappoint, spinning into history with a winning run that included four 900’s to pocket $30,000 and the victory. For his encore performance, White then went back to the top of the course for a run that included three 900’s and a final 1080.
